Tea plantation

History:
Cameron Highlands was named after William Cameron, a British surveyor who stumbled across the plateau in 1885 during a mapping expedition. Failing to mark his discovery on the map, the location of the plateau was a finally confirmed by subsequent expeditions.

In 1925, Sir George Maxwell visited the highlands and decided to develop it as a hill station. A development committee was then formed which functioned until 1931. During this time, the winding road up to the highlands was constructed and this enormous task was done entirely by manual labour.Once the road was constructed, wealthy residents and British government officials started building retreats on the slopes of the highlands. Later some settled here permanently and a business community developed. Farming was the main activity at that time. A permanent British army base was also established soon after that.

In 1929, John Archibald Russell, who was the son of a British administrative officer started a tea plantation which is now the famous Boh Tea Plantation. The highlands had developed successfully until the outbreak of World War II. After the war, the British returned to administer the highlands. Development continued even after the independence from the British in 1957.

Location:
Cameron Highlands is located in the state of Pahang. The newer access has since been built from Simpang Pulai - Kg Raja. Kea's Farm is located just a few kilometres north of Brinchang town. If you are coming from the new Simpang Pulai - Kg Raja highway, you have to pass along Blue Valley and Tringkap before you will start to see the towering complex of Equatorial Resort. Kea's Farm is located right after the resort's main entrance.
Tea plantation:The road leading to the plantation village and Boh Tea Centre is indeed very narrow and winded that you will need to generously use your car honking signal to indicate that your vehicle is approaching. If that is not enough, there are portions of the road that can only fit one car at one time, so if your timing is not right, either one of you will need to reverse your car to let the others pass through. Parking can be a headache too especially during the school holidays.
Market:
The main tourist market is located around Kea Farm but you can also find many of them all along the main road from Ringlet to Kg.Raja. On Saturday nights, the weekly night market comes to live in Brinchang. This is where you can find all the produce of Cameron Highlands being sold under the stars. You can get everything cheap here if you know how to bargain. This is also a place to get some good "pasar malam" food. In the recent years, there have been "all-in-one" type of markets where you can find small flower nursery, a strawberry garden, vegetable garden, souveniers and other Cameron Highlands produce all in one location.
